Default Position are very happy to welcome veteran house DJ Terry Francis to the artist roster. After Terry moved to the same neighbourhood as label founder Joseph S Joyce the pair inevitably crossed paths and soon agreed to work on a vinyl EP for the label. Six months later the ‘Gasworks’ EP was released on Default Position.
Terry Francis is perhaps best known for his long running residency at the acclaimed London night club Fabric. His DJ career has spanned more than 25 years and taken him to every corner of the globe. Terry’s seamless mixing of deep, techno influenced dance music has closely linked him to the rise of the sub genre known as ‘Tech House’. Labeling Terry’s style is fairly pointless however as he is never one to follow the crowd and always plays from the heart. Catch one of his weekly sets at Fabric and you can expect a beautifully crafted mix of up to the minute releases put together in a way that only someone with his history can.
Terry’s genuine love of playing records has triggered some what of a chain reaction throughout his life. A series of events that happened almost by chance have lead to him to become one of the best loved house DJs of his kind. Starting his working life as roofer and part time DJ on the weekends, demand for Terry slowly grew. He recalls turning up for work on a Monday morning less and less as music gradually became his full time occupation.
A residency at the legendary Sterns Club had Terry mixing along side the likes of Colin Dale, Mr C and Eddie Richards, he played extensively on the south coast and did numerous guest spots at parties like London’s Heart & Soul. In 1994 he felt the time was right to set up his own night, together with Nathan Coles and Eddie Richards; therefore, in March of that year, Wiggle was born and remains one of London’s best loved parties 20 years on. In 1997 Francis won Muzik Magazine’s “Best New DJ” award putting him firmly on the map as an established A list artist. In October 1999, when Fabric opened its doors for the first time Terry took the helm as their resident DJ and remains there to this day.
Recently Terry has been busy in the studio producing his own music again and the coming months look set to see a string of new releases from him. We are very lucky to be part of this latest chapter and look forward to releasing the first Terry Francis vinyl that has been pressed in some years!
